WHEN THE SUN WENT RED - PORTRAIT

Woman in Halifax when Sahara dust and Storm Ophelia made the sun turn red and the light orange.

On 16th October 2017 wild fires in Spain and Portugal sent dust into the air. It floated across the UK. Storm Ophelia brought high winds and red dust from the Sahara. The light turned gold and the sun went red. We could look straight at it. The atmosphere was a bit like the tension before an eclipse - only a different colour.

I know exactly what that's like Lucy, we have some horrific summer tires here too, not so much where I am close to the city but in the bush areas and the wind blows it up. The world in general is having a hard time right now.

It was the same here - brown cloudy sky first thing then really spooky red disc of the sun as the cloud thinned. Apocalyptic!
I took a rubbish pic that didn't show it at all, but yours is great.
All the best :)

Hello Perth Daily Photo. You are right - the world is having a hard time.

Hello Squirrelbasket. The first photos I saw that day were from further south and I looked out of the window and it was just dull and ordinary here. Then, gradually, we got it too. It was so gradual that at first I wondered if I was imagining it - but by the time I took this picture it was unmissable.

Hi, Toffeeapple. I've just found three of your comments had been sent to spam; from whence I've now released them. The picture isn't of me - just by me.
