Hello Hermes and Chuck - There seem to be more rings than I would have expected because it was not a very thick branch; and for that reason too, it's hard to imagine why so many angles were needed to cut it!
I took a photo very similar to this on Sunday. A huge tree in my sisters yard blew down in a storm and they were cutting it up for firewood. Only difference was it was rotten all down the middle.
So many colours in a small area - but I can't count the rings (lol).
