Hello Taken for Granted. At present it is true - and I am one of the fortunate ones who have benefitted from the National Health System. Unfortunately, our current government is constantly chipping away at the country and its values as we have known them pretty much since shortly after the second world war. Gradually, everything that used to be common property of citizens is being sold off to multi-nationals and foreign entities. But if we hadn't had the NHS I would be dead several times over. I am hoping, very much, that it can be saved - but it's in a delicate state. The idea was 'Health care from the cradle to the grave; free at the point of delivery' - and it has worked well. Long may it continue.
The NHS has been a wonderful model for the rest of the world. The U.S. health system sucks. It isn't bad, but only if one can afford it or has health insurance. I do fear for the future of our institutions, so I try to focus on what we can enjoy now.
