Hello Taken for Granted. If you zoom into the picture, you will see, carved into a stone above the door, that although this building is now used by the local Labour Party, in 1873 it belonged to the 'Zoar Particular Baptists' (a Calvinist group I think). I've visited this small town only once but one of the striking things was the number of different Christian sects and denominations that built quite substantial churches and meeting places there in the nineteenth century, at times right next door to each other.

Thank you for the history of this building. Yes, the 19th Century was a time for many religious sects to grow and flourish.
