Wonderful photo. I'm reading Bill Bryson's Short History of Nearly Everything right now, and thinking about timeless millenia, fossils, the universe and everything. This dovetails nicely with all that ancient talk.
Hello Jodi. I find it very difficult to grasp that these shells have been here for millenia. The coast line here is full of fossils. Some stones are almost nothing but fossils. I wish the word 'awesome' weren't so lightly used because how can I say now that I am awe-struck? It's extraordinary and wonderful and unbelievable all wrapped up together that one can still touch the remains of creatures who lived so very far distant from us in time.
Hello Mo. It does look oyster-like - though though most of the shells sticking out from this rock remind me more of extra-large limpets. There are a lot of oyster shells lying around though; fifty-five-million year old oyster shells loose on the sand.
Hello Rune. These shells humble me, put me in my place. I very much doubt there will be even a tiny fragment of a bone left from my body many years after I die - yet these shells are still here!

Great textures here.
I can almost feel it!
Looks like an oyster
Maybe we too will be found like bones in rock some million years into the future. Nice!

Hell T. Becque. Yes, this is rough and lumpy. I wouldn't want to sit on this rock!

Hello Luis. Yes, the textures. Including the living lichen!
