'Old Man's Beard' is the seed structure for the wild clematis that grows in country hedgerows. In the summer, this plant is called 'Travellers Joy'. The flowers are small but in autumn are transformed into these huge white and frothy blobs. Each one is about three inches across - so the hedge the plant has climbed over turns into a fluffy mountain!

Hello Rune. The old man's beard looks pretty at this stage but, as the season wears on, it goes tatty and grey - I certainly hope your beard will not become like that!

I think I have seen more of it this year than any other, I have no idea why that should be.
