SUN MASQUERADING AS THE MOON

Sun mostly obscured by the moon in solar eclipse 2015 with chimney and bird

Many of us took photographs of the solar eclipse this morning. They look muchly the same. It's not often we see the same thing.  But we'll remember it differently; where we were, who we were with. So I'll tip mine into the mix.

So glad, Lucy, to see this. We had grey, grey and uniform grey cloud. But cheered by Robin song.

none of my photos actually show the eclipse as such - the clouds mostly parted while it was happening and I got some nice shadow shots - as it ended the clouds came back and now it is thick cloud.

The eclipse didn't make it here. Interesting to see through the clouds.

Hello Caroline, Gerald and Taken for Granted. From 7:30am I kept going out for short walks in the hope that the dense cloud cover would crack open. By 9:15am I'd just about given up but decided to give it another try. As I stood in the hall putting on my coat, the light coming through the window changed to a different kind of colour and I dashed out and away to a place with a good view. The cloud turned out to be a friend because for the minutes leading up to and after the 85%ish eclipse they made a film thin enough to see through but dense enough that one could look at the eclipse without glasses. After that the cloud cleared and the sun was too bright to look at so I went home to watch the 100% eclipse from the Faroe Islands on the news. (Plus the almost total from the Isle of Lewis.)

The commentary said that in 2017 there will be a total eclipse in the USA and the line the shadow moves along will coincide with a particular highway so you could drive along it seeing the total eclipse for about an hour. Imagine that!

We had bright sunshine here and I had no way of looking at the sun without danger to my eyes, so I left it until it would be on the internet, so thanks Lucy!
