RAGWORT AND WALL

Single ragwort plant flowering by wall against pavement.

I know the flower is out of focus so I wouldn't usually use this picture. However, I am celebrating that I am currently well enough to crouch down, take a photo and stand up again. Keep fit with photography!

I am glad you are well enough to crouch and, more importantly, get back up. Lovely to hear from you xx

That's a win! The flower doesn't seem out of focus to me, even when I enlarge the pic twice, but I'll take your word for it. The wall is amazing texture, though, and the flower makes a wonderful soft contrast to the angles, as well as the colors.

Hello Magiceye. I like the simplicity of this photo. Glad you like it too. And yes . . . photography (and blogging, I reckon) contributes a lot to one's physical health and mental well-being. It changes the way I see the world and gives me lots of images to 'look at' in my thoughts when I can't be doing other things.

Hello Susan. I've got a bit fussy about how clear photos are. Being able to enlarge photos on screen means I have seen the stings on nettles and the hairs on insects' legs so I expect crispness all the time. It's daft really because when we look at pictures in books we don't expect to be able to see more and more, we accept what is given - and static. But you are right about the wall. It would be something one could have walked by without paying attention but the camera's lens has noted its texture.

Hello Evi. There's lots of ragwort around at the moment and it cheers the streets in the way dandelions did a few weeks ago. Mostly the ragwort plants are a bit bushier than this but this ones seemed special in its sparce-ness - and an inspiring example of how 'weeds' can flourish where other plants wouldn't have a chance.

This is a lovely composition Lucy, the determination of weeds to pop up in the unlikeliest of places always amazes me. So good to see you out and about enjoying these moments ✨

Hello Grace. Glad you like the ragwort photo. The determination of weeds is simultaneously striking, admirable and annoying. It depends somewhat on whether one owns or has responsibility for whatever they are digging their roots into. I photograph urban wild plants in striking places but pull them out if the grow in the gutter along our street!
