Interesting photo of these great looking canal boats. The buildings and especially smokestack are from an early era of industrialization.

Hello Taken for Granted. We cannot avoid noticing our industrial past in this area. It's full of old mills and chimneys. Even the canal itself would have been used for transporting things . . . imagine quite a lot of that movement along the waterways would have been of coal to provide power for the factories.

Hello Susan. The houseboats look very attractive don't they? I think I would find it a very confining way to live though. On this particular section of the canal there seem to be several that have been neglected. Might even have been abandoned. But back in the direction I have come from there are quite a number which are well maintained and have a very 'lived in' atmosphere.
