Hello Andy.The Romans were there from AD85 till 370 - so, yes, a pretty old road! (Though it has been covered with earth I think for some of that time. It isn't a route to somewhere. It would have been the main street of the settlement - a mixture of military buildings with civilian shops and dwellings at the edge.)

Isn't that absolutely amazing? What stories one could make up from the foundations and streets.

Some of the roads in our town are not as good as this. Wonderful texture on this historic road.
