That bud is safe from me. Nice macro.

I'd never noticed the grading of colours until your great shot.

Beautifully jewel-like!
I appreciate brambles but hate working with them!

How clever of nature to protect a bud with sharp thorns. Great macro shot Lucy!

Hello Scott and Pat and Chuck. The nice thing about these thorns is that, although they can hurt if you are not careful, they are not so bad that you don't want to risk a scratch when you pick their fruit. Nowhere near as bad as roses. (Though I wouldn't want to be thrown into a patch!) . . . In case you do not have blackberries in your parts (I don't know what grows where!) in real life (as opposed to on a screen) these thorns are about a quarter of an inch long.

Hello Hermes, Mag and AGMPRISMA. There are so many things I have noticed about plants since I started taking their photos close up. As Hermes mentions, there is the gradation of colour. In this case, there is also the green on the stem. At first, I thought it was the beginning of a dusty mould/lichen but now realise it is the green of the leaf bud reflected against the stem.

The frustrating thing is that I will never be able to pick out these leaves again as they grow in the sea of brambles.

Love the colors and the iridescence of this shot. Just goes to show that good and bad can coexist beautifully.

Hello Rita. Something I hadn't realised about new leaf buds until I photographed them close up - is how shiny they can be.
