Hi Toffeeapple. Pictures create problems when it comes to size. This clip is quite hefty - but, now I come to think about it, I can't remember exactly how big it is. Two inches? I'll check if the object it's attached to is still there. I have no idea what it is - but took the car photo http://goo.gl/3Ijk9 through it. (That's what the bar is from along the top of that picture.)
No, Rita, it's not an illusion. It really is a heavy piece of metal - though I haven't the faintest idea what it is! It's out in the open, brightly painted and . . . just there. I suppose it's safe to leave an unrecognisable object lying around in an empty space. Most people won't want it - and anyone who does want it would have to bring lifting equipment in order to take it.

A minimalist masterpiece!
This is so good Lucy!
Thanks, VP and Luis.
Something so small and insignificant to hold such heavy metal together...

So much to like about this shot. Besides the simplicity is the color and industrial feel.
Here we call this clip a cotter key and I got the impression that it is rather large and extremely heavy, but that could be just an illusion.
