Re your query on my post - Bombay became Mumbai in 1995 as demanded by the locals who felt that 'Bombay' was the corrupted form of 'Mumbai'. The natives believe that Mumbai is named after the Goddess Mumbadevi who has a temple dedicated to her in South Mumbai. Now, there is a section of people for whom 'Bombay' has a connotation for old world charm, when the city was not bursting at its seams and life was beautiful. :)
