It wasn't too bad, Andy, because the bank was supported by a wall. I do like to notice the little things though because there are so many more small things than there are large ones.
Lovely shot! I think this might be my favourite moss - Polytrichum commune – common haircap moss. See it on Wikipedia here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polytrichum_commune. I have only ever seen it at Aberglasney Gardens in Carmarthenshire, so it's great you have found it up north. Of course I could be wrong! All the best :)
