Hello Susan. The hills in and around Halifax are quite tall. Google 'The Pennines' to get a bit of context. To drive from the centre of town to the place where I took the sheep photo takes twenty minutes - going up all the time. The effect is magnified because there are deep ravines cutting through the town and when taking this photo I am looking across the top of one of them. In some places there are nothing but trees. In others there are old mills and offices. I don't know anywhere with a similar topography and even after living there for two years can't yet make a 3D map in my head.
Thank you for the explanation, Lucy. I had no idea the Pennines were that up and down. What an interesting place to live! When you moved, I thought perhaps it wouldn't be as interesting a place for your photos, but that hasn't turned out to be true at all!

It looks like more of a rise than I would have expected. What a lovely photograph!
