These canals were high technology of the 18th Century. Lovely photo.

Such a beautiful scene. I love the canals in the UK. I understand some of them have houseboats on them! House barges? This is beautifully photographed with trees on one side and the older buildings on the other.

P. S. Does this mean you are out and about with your camera now?

Hello Flighty. I think Apart from the plastic drain pipes and little chimneys which I assume are part of heating systems, I imagine there's not much in here which will have changed over the last one hundred years. Perhaps the more notable difference would have been that for many years it would have been a very busy working canal. At the moment though it is very peaceful.

Hello Taken for Granted. This was a very important canal in its day. At the furthest point in the photo are lock gates. Unfortunately, you can't see them well because I reduce the photos before publishing.

Hello Susan. There are houseboats on this canal - I don't like to photograph them without permission though for the very fact they are people's homes. This link shows you what they are like though. The main photograph is of Hebden Bridge, a couple of miles north-west of where I took this picture.

And yes, I am getting out and about a bit for short walks. This view is tantalising because it is of where I would have walked if I could have gone a little further that day. I came under a bridge, photographed what lay ahead, turned and went home.

Lucy, you do what you can to let us see with your "personal eye", and I am very thankful for that. I am longing to see the place that you live, and hope you continue on your wellness journey. Is the pathway now a cycling one? My wife, Clare and I did a cycling adventure along the rivers & canals in Germany & France in 2017 & this scene is very similiar to what we saw...

Hello Walter. This is part of the Rochdale Canal which goes all the way from Sowerby Bridge to Manchester. My understanding is that it's possible both to walk and cycle along its whole length except for some times in winter or rainy weather when some parts of the tow path can get too muddy. (It's around 32 miles long.)

Here's the local advert for it

And here's its route and a bit more detail written with people on boats in mind

Thanks Lucy, you do keep up with your comments on your blog. And I admire that as I get so lazy in my old age...are you a MU or MC fan? (I have a long lost cousin who played for MU in days of old, LOL!)
