Hello Taken for Granted. There's no seat to the chair so it's not an enormously tempting offer! Not that I'm certain what it was doing there. It wasn't by a bin or anything to indicate it had been discarded. Slightly surreal!
Hello Voyage of the Eye. When bin collectors would take things not actually in the bins, people could put out quite interesting and useful items for collection and others could take them if they knew the 'best' areas to find such things and the right days to look. But now the refuse collectors only take things that are in wheelie bins, carpets and furniture get disposed of differently. Sad really.
Hello Taken for Granted. You are probably right. I tried repairing a similar chair but it had a wooden frame with a sort of webbing across that fitted into the seat. I still have it - and very uncomfortable is too where I replaced the the different layers of this and that. Hard with a dip in it! Cutting a piece of plywood to the right size and doing as you said would probably have been a better move.

Must be a free chair on offer.
All my fist flat's furniture was found on street or in derelict buildings. Now I just wait for richer friends to move on to a newer trend...
Duh! Forgot to say that I found it all whilst out with camera!

A seat is easy to replace with a bit of plywood, foam rubber, and fabric.
My first thought was that it was a bring-your-own-seat chair! LOL
