I have no experience with walls like this. How do you know it is mended? Because some of the rocks are a different color? It makes a wonderful textured pattern.
Hello Susan. I'm making the assumption that this wall has been repaired because of the different colour of the stones. I can't think of another reason for the difference but I might be wrong.
The black on everything, even in the countryside, is, I think, residue from the soot belched out by masses of factory chimneys in the area when it was a centre for carpet weaving and other (wool) cloth industries.
